“Is it going well, is it working, is it alive?”

The model Is it working, is it successful, is it alive is a tool for organizing and evaluating
of exercise and in your sports training. It helps you as a trainer to assess how well
players understand the exercise, whether they are able to perform it successfully, and whether they
enjoy. Below is an explanation of the three core questions:

Is it going well?
At Is it going well? is the question whether the players understand how the exercise is organized. Can they start quickly and without confusion? This depends on how clear the instructions are and how logical the arrangement of the equipment is. As a coach, you ensure that the exercise is clear and accessible to all players, so that everyone can participate immediately.

Is it working?
Here it is about whether the players can handle the exercise socially, physically, technically or tactically. Are they challenged, but is it not too difficult? As a trainer you check whether the activity matches the level of your players and, where necessary, you provide extra guidance or adjustments. It is important that the players experience moments of success, because this motivates them to continue and improve themselves.

Is it alive?
Is it alive? is about the involvement and enthusiasm of the players. Do they find the exercise fun and meaningful? If players have fun and feel mentally involved, they will not only enjoy it more, but also perform better. Here you, as a trainer, play on their motivation by varying between cooperation, competition, or personal challenges.

Tips for trainers:

  1. As a coach, first set up the organization. Do the players understand what they have to do in terms of rotation, etc.?
  2. Only when the runs add the training element. Now see if they can all play in a certain way or earn a point if a certain result is achieved.
  3. Then it is up to the trainer to see if it smell en lives. Check this regularly.
  4. Is it too much or too little, or is it not alive? Then try to adjust this by differentiation or adjustments.

If you change things in the organization, first check again whether it runs.
